Three years is too long a wait to have a friend sit for me.

As i was explaining to Cait tonight. The dynamic of the relationship between artist and subject really shows through in a drawing. Cait majored in English but has always been an artist. We went to high school together and she was a couple years below me. She went to a state school to save money and chose English instead of art because she felt it was a safer bet. Tonight she told me she regrets that choice. I have known Cait for years but didn’t know she had studied English until tonight. The walls of her gorgeous Victorian apt in Brooklyn are covered in her artwork. Her moleskins are filled with a volume of sketches and life drawings that rival my own.

I told her i want to adopt her. I said if she was my daughter i would be a proud father. Not because of any academic or career achievement but because of her passion for art. She’s truly unjaded and maintains an innocence that I would find difficult to hold onto after years of commercial work and especially after art school. She wants to teacher and I can think of few others best suited.

These are the stories and experience I get from sitting and talking with those I draw.

I’m currently working on a project that will take me through the new year and several private commissions. I’ve been entertaining myself with quick ballpoint pen studies.
